Merry Christmas! Here are few photos from our December Christmas Lunch. We had a great time with wonderful friends. Our original caterer cancelled last minute and we panicked for about 5 minutes. The Pacific Pantry was supplying our pork and said no problem I can get you a great meal. John saved Christmas for the garden club and did it with a huge smile and was happy to help. If you haven't been to Pacific Pantry, go! Check out their website for details, you won't be disappointed. https://www.pacificpantry.com/
November meeting was a huge success. Bent P gave an in-depth presentation on how to propagate from cuttings, he even passed out sample when he was done. He has wonderful plants growing at his place and is a great contributions to our plant sale in May. After the meeting several members made gnomes for Park View Villa for Christmas.
We had soooo much fun at our October meeting. Our talented designer's showed us how to make wreaths for our upcoming wreath decorating party. If you are interested in purchasing a wreath go to the wreath page and fill out an order form. Every year we sell lots of wreaths and every year we look forward to coming together and making them look beautiful for you. It's a chance to spend time with friends and craft all day. Oh, and eat some good soup!
The June luncheon was a great success, we handed out some well deserved awards that we received from the state convention. We celebrated 90 years of the Port Angeles Garden Club with a great lunch and a special cake. We had scholarship recipients attend and tell us their plans for the future. We will be taking a break for summer and encourage you to check back the end of August to learn about our speaker for September. Hope to see you then!
Our May meeting was a mixed success. We had a bee presentation planned but technical difficulties made us postpone it. Good news is the horticulture committee was ready to step in and talk about the importance of doing things is the garden to conserve water. We also had TSA students from Stevens Middle School visit and show us their model greenhouse they are building for Franklin Elementary School. It has a working irrigation system, heat and cool controls and will be built this summer. McHenry, Brett and Jacob were very knowledgeable about the project and will no doubt go far in life.
In April we hosted the district meeting for the garden clubs on the Olympic Peninsula. We had a great time and some of our clubs brought plants that they are growing in their gardens. We ate, laughed, and enjoyed great fellowship. Each club brought a centerpiece for the table that were given away and we had drawings for some gift baskets that were donated. Enjoy the pictures!
In March our guest speaker, Melissa Williams, Executive Director of Fierro Marine Lab, gave a presentation on what is happening at the lab. They are in the process of fundraising to move their campus to the location known as Pebble Beach. Her slideshow focused on how they are planning to enlarge their space and add programs for the kids in the area. You can still stop by and visit and see what is going on now.
In February guest speaker Tobey Nelson, CPH, gave a great presentation on the winter garden and how to make it look good and what plants to put in the garden to be able to bring the beauty into your home. We loved the pictures and her excellent knowledge of all things nature! She teaches classes at Venture Out Nursery on Whidbey Island. https://www.ventureoutnursery.com/
Our January meeting was awesome. Founder of 4PA, Joe Dascala joined us and told us all about 4PA (a non-profit) and how well the program is working. He has a great plan to clean our neighborhood and help the homeless have an opportunity to make a new start. If you are interested in being involved visit his website at https://www.4pa.org/
What a great way to end a wonderful fun filled year. Our club got to spend time together in December, eating and enjoying a great presentation from Leilani Woods on how to use broken pottery in the garden. Bringing new life into things that seem broken or not usable can remind us to have hope. Enjoy the pictures of our time together as friends!
November club meeting was a great success! We are back at First Presbyterian Church and it is a lovely place to be. Our guest speaker and member from Canada was Corrie Ten-Have. Corrie uses natural material to make all her designs and they are beautiful as you can see from the pictures. You can tell she is super passionate about floral designs. She decorated some lovely arrangements for us to auction off to the club members with the proceeds to benefit the local food bank. We raised over $500 because we have the best members in the whole world.
